The Research Library has a rich collection of nearly 30,000 books and journals – Indian and International.
The Library consists mainly of books on archaeology, art, architecture, numismatics, mythology, religion, anthropology, natural history, museology, conservation, history and civilization, with particular emphasis, on ancient Indian history and culture.
There is a reference section consisting of dictionaries, directories, encyclopedias, atlases, gazetteers, reports of the Archaeological Survey of India and reports on Indian Epigraphy.
The library has also vast collection of catalogues of Museum and Art Galleries all over the world.
The library is mainly for reference purposes. Books are not allowed out of the library. Students and research scholars are given access to books on the premises only. College students are also allowed this facility for preparing projects on the subjects of art history and ancient Indian culture.
The procedure is simple: the students have to produce their identity card or letter of recommendation from an Institute. They are given a library admission form to fill up, after their credentials are ascertained.
Scholars, post-graduate and research students visit the library regularly, for reference work, for writing their thesis and research articles.
The Curatorial staff members consult the valuable source material in the library for writing books, catalogues, guide books and research papers.
The library support is continuously extended for the educational and research activities of the Museum.
Photocopy facility is available in the Library to those who require the data for academic purpose. Photocopying will bear a small charge.
The Library is currently engaged in digitization of its collection.
Opening Timings for the Library:
10.15 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday
10.15 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday
Closed on Sundays and all Bank Holidays.
