Asia's lions are a sub-species of the lion which evolved in Africa. They roamed extensively from Palestine in the West to Palamau in India in the East. Lions occupy a singular position in the continent’s art culture and symbolism. They have been exterminated from the entire continent and they are to be found now only in the Saurashtra peninsula. The talk will touch upon the causes of their near extinction, their status at the present and their future.
Dr. Divyabhanusinh Chavda is the former President of World Wide Fund for Nature India (WWF India).
