MASALA SHAKESPEARE: Bollywood, the Bard, and the Politics of the More-than-One by Jonathan Gil Harris
6th Jehangir Sabavala Memorial Lecture
In Collaboration with The Jehangir Sabavala Memorial Foundation
Auditorium, Visitors Centre, CSMVS
This lecture speaks of the manner in which a foreigner learned how to read Shakespeare in India, through India, and as India. It is equally a love letter to popular Hindi cinema and the much-maligned phenomenon of the masala movie.
Jonathan Gil Harris is Professor of English and Dean of Academic Affairs at Ashoka University and the author of a number of books. He is also President of the Shakespeare Society of India.
