CSMVS is home to some of the most wonderful and intriguing miniature objects. Ranging from kitchen-set toys, animal figurines, tools, pieces of furniture, depictions of communities, professions and costumes, the miniature objects’ collection in the Museum is fascinating. Envisaged as an idea-centric exhibition, visitors will encounter iconic and not-so-iconic pieces that open-up the world of miniaturization and its impact on the human mind and society. Reflected in child-play, worship, in rituals as symbolic offerings, artistic expressions, fantastical literature and performing arts, miniatures have fascinated us for centuries. As opposed to gigantic and imposing objects, miniatures ignite a different kind of emotion when we see them.

This exhibition explores the magical, psychological, aspirational and intricate world of miniature objects that have been created, collected and possessed by people over epochs.

The new special exhibitions gallery has been sponsored by the Hemendra Kothari Foundation in honour of Dr. Devangana Desai and Dr. Kunjalata Shah.
